The Swedish bass/bass-baritone Anders Lorentzson studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. He was immediately engaged at the Royal Opera in Stockholm where he sang roles such as Masetto in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Titurel in Parsifal, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Wagner in Faust, Der Vater in Hänsel und Gretel, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Il Re in Aida, Herman von Ortel in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg as well as a number of roles in Swedish operas.
Since 1996 he is a member of the ensemble at the Gothenburg Opera. Amongst his many roles can be mentioned Wotan in Die Walküre, Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier, the title roles in Falstaff, Der Fliegende Holänder and Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Colline in La Bohème, Don Prudenzio in Il viaggo a Reims, the doctor in Wozzeck, the four villains in Les contes d’Hoffman, Swallow in Peter Grimes, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Geronte in Manon Lescaut, Count Waldner in Arabella (opposite Nina Stemme), and Mephistopheles in Faust. In the summer of 2004 he sang Jade Emperor in the world premiere of Swedish composer Reine Jönsson’s opera Cecilia and the Monkey King at the Drottningholm Theatre in Stockholm.
Anders Lorentzon is a much sought after concert singer and his repertoire includes works such as Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Verdi’s Requiem.
Among recent and upcoming performances at the Gothenburg Opera are Hans Sachs in Wagner’s Meistersinger, Filip II in Don Carlos, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, the title role in Attila and Scarpia in Tosca.
