Cornelia Beskow is a young Swedish soprano with a sonorous voice and remarkable stage presence. At the age of 22, she was admitted to The Copenhagen Opera Academy after three years of preparatory vocal studies at Vadstena College. She is now doing her final year at the Academy for associate professor Susanna Eken. She has attended masterclasses for, among others, Chritian Badea, Norma Ennz, Felicity Palmer, Fiona MacSherry, Mikael Eliassen and Tomas Schuback and sung with conductors like Marc Soustrot and Tobias Ringborg.
At present, Cornelia is studying the parts of Tatjana in Eugen Onegin and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni for the Opera Academy’s spring student productions at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. This season she is doing her practicum as Annina in La Traviata at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, directed by David Radok and conducted by Marcello Mottadelli.
At the Opera Academy, Cornelia has studied the parts of Marenka in “Die verkaufte Braut”, Giorgetta in “Il Tabarro”, Adalgisa in “Norma”, and Elisabeth in “Tannhäuser” At Vadstena College, she has performed Fiordiligi in “Cosi fan tutte” and Volpino in “Lo Speziale” She has also worked with opera for children at Kulturhuset in Stockholm, at Svartsjö castle and at Sweden’s oldest Rococo theatre, Confidencen.
Cornelia has a special interest in lied singing and her collaboration with the talented pianist Nigar Dadascheva continues to expand their repertoire. Together they have done several programs for churches around Sweden and in 2011 they received the Vadstena Academy´s Lieder Artist in Residence scholarship giving a well received concert at the Old Theatre in Vadstena performing songs by Brahms, Strauss, Wagner, Nystroem and Rachmaninoff.
The Opera soloists at the Royal Swedish Opera rewarded Cornelia with the prestigious 2010 Joel Berglund Scholarship. She has also received scholarships from the Anders Sandrews Foundation, the H.T. Cedergren Foundation and The Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
