    Johan Christensson /Tenor

Since his graduation from the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm in 1993 Johan Christensson has steadily established himself as one of the leading and most sought after tenors in the field of concert and oratorio. He has dedicated himself especially to the study and interpretation of the Evangelist parts in the Christmas Oratorio and Passions by J.S. Bach and is considered to be among the absolute finest performers of these parts. Johan has collaborated with many of Scandinavia’s most prominent orchestras in works by Bach, Mozart, Handel, Haydn and Britten.

The season 2003/2004 Johan was the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Västerås, Handels Messiah in Norrköping and Carl Heinrich Graun’s Der Tode Jesu in Malmö; all under the direction of Andrew Manze. The B-minor mass in Berwaldhallen in Stockholm under Stefan Parkman. The S:t John’s Passion Evangelist in Malmö. This winter he was again invited to the Nidaros Cathedral for performances as Evangelist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with conductor Robert King. Johan sung a Handel programme with Andrew Manze in Helsingborg and the Christmas Oratorio with Paul Goodwin in The Stockholm Concert Hall.

Johan increasingly also performs in opera and has been hailed for his rendition of King Gustaf III in Jan Sandströms new opera God Natt Madame with Piteå Chamber Opera. With the same company he performed the Electrician in Thomas Adès’ Powder her face. Other important roles include Belmonte in The abduction from the Seraglio and Ferrando in Così fan tutte with Folkoperan in Stockholm as well as Tamino in The magic flute; roles that have made him a name as a Mozart singer. Johan has also sung Mats in Carl Envallsson’s opéra comique Kopparslagaren with the Vadstena Academy, Peter Quint in Britten’s Turn of the Screw and Alfredo in La Traviata.

Engagements in 2007 include Kurt in the World premiere of Philippe Fenelon’s opera Faust at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, participation in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Royal Drottningholm Court Theatre, Messiah in Oslo Cathedral, Kurt Weill’s Berliner Requiem for Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and concerts of Belshazzar, Mozart’s Requiem and C-minor Mass and Haydn’s Die Schöpfung.
