    Henriikka Gröndahl /Soprano

Henriikka made her operatic debut at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, stepping in as the cover of Mimì in La Bohème in 2004. She continued to sing in total 11 performances of La Bohème for Scottish Opera – both at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow and at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre.

During 2001-03, at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, she won the Norma Grieg French Song competition, the Margaret Dick competition, 2nd prize in the Ye Cronies Opera competition, the prestigious inter collegial Bruce Millar/Gulliver Prize and the David Knox Memorial Prize. In Sweden, she won the highest financial award from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Master classes include Håkan Hagegård, Sir Thomas Allen, Ileana Cotrubas, Malcolm Martineau, Graham Johnson, Elly Ameling, Emanuele Moris, Sarah Walker and Philip Langridge.

Henriikka also recieved generous awards from Chevron Texaco, Sybil Tutton, Barcapel (all in the UK) and the Royal Music Academy of Sweden, which made it possible for her to receive private coaching with Ileana Cotrubas on Massenets Manon and Mimi.

Henriikka frequently performs in concerts both in Sweden and around Europe; major works have included Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (Cheltenham), Mozart’s Requiem (Barcelona and Anghiari, Italy) and C minor Mass and Rossini Stabat Mater (Paisley), Pergolesi Stabat Mater (Imperia, Italia), Beethoven Mass in C (Glasgow), Handel’s The Messiah (Edinburgh and Linköping) the Berio Folksongs with the Northern Sinfonia under Susanna Mälkki and Christmas concerts at the Gothenburg Opera. Later engagements include Amor (Orpheus and Euridice, Gluck,) Gothemburg, the Brahms Requiem (Helsingborg), Det ljusa landet , Helsingborg, Hugo Alfvéns Symfoni No 4 (Nybrokajen, Stockholm), St Matthews passion at the Nidaros Dome (Trondheim), and Die Schöpfung (Säffle) and with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra under Gustav Sjökvist.

While at the RSAMD, Henriikka performed the roles of Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Massenet’s Manon, Princesse (L’enfant et les Sortilèges), Handel’s Alcina under Christian Curnyun and Ilia in Mozart’s Idomeneo under Timothy Dean. She has begun her professional career singing Pamina for BYO, Mimi for Scottish Opera, Papagena (covering Pamina) for Glyndebourne Touring Opera.

Henriikka made her Swedish debut at The Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, singing Ravel’s Princesse in 2005. Thereafter she sang Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte) at the Sage, Gateshead, directed by Sir Thomas Allen, and Donna Elvira for Scottish Opera. In 2005 and 2006 she sang Nanetta (Falstaff) at the Gothenburg Opera under Pietro Rizzo and Pamina (Zauberflöte) before a capacity audience during Gothenburg’s hosting of the European Championships of Athletics. In 2008 Henriikka sang Fünfte Magd (Elektra) at Barcelona’s Liceu and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras with The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel. 2008 also brought her Musetta (Bohème) at the ROH Stockholm and at the Gothemburg opera, where she also sang Juliet in a performance of Romeo and Juliet (put together and conducted by Bjorn Dobbelaere), and in 2009-2010 Pamina (Magic Flute) at the Gothemburg Opera.
