Charlotta Larsson /Soprano
Charlotta Larsson is one of Sweden’s most prominent exponents of the lirico spinto repertoire, in which she wields her full lyrical soprano voice with total technical command. Throughout her career, she has been in great demand and has appeared at all the leading Scandinavian opera stages, including Kungliga Operan (Stockholm), Göteborgsoperan, Malmö Opera, Det Kongelige Teater (Copenhagen) and Den Norske Opera (Oslo).
At her professional opera debut in Stockholm in 1993, singing Liù (Turando) at Folkoperan, she was at once identified as a significant talent and went on to sing roles as Pamina (The Magic Flute), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Ilia (Idomeneo) as well as the title roles in Rusalka and Sour Angelica – all of them at major operatic venues in Scandinavia. Among her early engagements were a string of operatic recitals at the Royal Castle in Stockholm featuring a.o. mezzo Doris Soffel and the late Gösta Winberg.
Subsequently Charlotta Larsson ventured further into the Italian repertoire with roles as Mimì (La Bohème), Violetta (La Traviata), Desdemona (Otello) and the title role in Aida. Other significant roles in her repertoire are Tatiana (Eugen Onegin), Michaëla (Carmen) and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro).
The vibrant impact of Charlotta Larsson’s voice has contributed into making her a frequently engaged a concert and recital singer. Her concert repertoire includes works as Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder, Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder and Wagner’s Wesendonck-lieder. No stranger to contemporary vocal music, she has participated in the Scandinavian premières Jacqueline Fontyn’s enigmatic song cycle Blake’s Mirror at The Stockholm Concert Hall and John Adams’ El Niño in Oslo.
Recent seasons include engagements at Malmö Opera, singing Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Mimì (La Bohème) andVioletta (La Traviata) – the latter a role that she later repeated at GöteborgsOperan. In the summer of 2008 Charlotta sang Stradella’s Salome with conductor Arnold Östman in Stockholm and another significant event in 2008 was a Puccini Gala with tenor Aleksanders Antonenko and conductor Paul Mägi in Uppsala, in which the two singers performed arias and duets from Il Tabarro, La Bohème, Sour Angelica, Manon Lescaut and Turandot.
In spring 2009 Charlotta created the title role in the Scandinavian première of Samuel Barber’s Vanessa at Malmö Opera, a role for which she received tremendous critical acclaim resulting in a nomination for the Swedish OPERA-prize. In the summer of 2009 she added a new role to her verismo-repertoire: Giorgetta in Puccini’s Il Tabarro for Opera på Skäret.
In spring 2010 she will be Malmö Opera’s Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s opera Les Dialogues des Carmélites, followed by another key role from the French operatic repertoire, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, at Folkoperan in Stockholm. |
