Annalena Persson /Soprano
Swedish soprano Annalena Persson has emerged as one of the most exciting and sought after young singers of her generation. She graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm June 2002. Numerous grants have made it possible for her to study with prominent teachers such as Kerstin Meyer, Craig Rutenberg and Richard Trimborn.
In October 2003 an unanimous jury announced Annalena Persson winner of the fourth international competition for Wagner voices in Bayreuth and she was also awarded the audience’s special prize for best singer. In 2004 the readers of Swedish magazine “Tidskriften Opera” rewarded her with the “Opera Prize 2004”.
Annalena made her professional stage debut in January 2004 as Sieglinde in Die Walküre at the Gothenburg Opera followed by her debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as Senta in The Flying Dutchman.In 2005 she sang Isolde at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and at Stadttheater Basel and Madama Butterfly at the Opera in Gothenburg. The season 2005/2006 started with Sieglinde at Den Ny Opera in Denmark and Ortlinde in Die Walküre at the Châtelet in Paris conducted by Christoph Eschenbach.
Among recent and future engagements to be mentioned are Senta at Welsh National Opera under Carlo Rizzi and opposite Bryn Terfel, Isolde at Welsh National Opera, Santuzza at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Sieglinde at De Vlaamse Oper in Antwerp/Gent, Kundry in Parsifal andTatjana in Eugen Onegin at the Opera in Gothenburg, Isolde at the Cologne Opera and Beethoven 9th with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Herbert Blomstedt.
Annalena has collaborated with conductors Kurt Masur, Herbert Blomstedt, Marc Wigglesworth, Carlo Rizzi, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Alan Gilbert, Marco Latogna and Christoph Eschenbach.
