Mikhail Rudy /Piano
The creative and charismatic virtuoso Mikhail Rudy was born in Russia where he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Jacob Flier. Rudy made his debut in the West with a performance of Beethoven's “Triple Concerto” with Mstislav Rostropovich and Isaac Stern.
After winning First Prize at the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris he settled in France. He has been honoured as a concert and recording pianists many times; he won the Prix de l'Academie du Disque Français for his Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2 and Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No 1 with the St Petersburg Philharmonic/Jansons and the Grand Prix Liszt in Budapest for his recording of solo pieces by that composer.
He has been invited to perform with the world’s leading orchestras including La Scala di Milano, Berlin Staatskapelle, the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras and the Russian National Orchestra.
Since his debut in Paris with Paul Paray, Rudy has regularly performed with all French orchestras where he remains one of the most popular artists. Rudy also frequently visits his native Russia where he is a regular guest of the St Petersburg Philharmonic as well as main Moscow Orchestras.
Rudy appears at major festivals such as Berlin, Vienna, Edinburgh, Festival Pianistico Michelangeli di Brescia e Bergamo, Aix en Provence and most of the French festivals.
Rudy developed an exciting innovative project for two pianos, “Double Dream”, together with the jazz pianist Misha Alperin. The CD, released in 2004 on EMI Classics, received many distinctions including “Best Record of the Month” in Gramophone. In 2006, they give performances in France, the UK and the Copenhagen Jazz festival in Tivoli.
Rudy’s highly acclaimed recordings on EMI include Rachmaninov's complete works for piano and orchestra with the St Petersburg Philharmonic/Jansons and Brahms solo works. Other releases include Shostakovich concerti with the London Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic/Jansons and his solo recording of Stravinsky's complete "Petrouchka". His latest CD is dedicated to Chopin “Sonata No.2” and “24 Preludes”.
In 2008/09 Rudy’s highlights include concerts with China Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo, a tour in England with the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra under the direction of Kristian Jarvi and several concerts with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
In February 2009 he will inaugurate the new cultural center at King’s Place in London, with a “carte blanche to Mikhail Rudy” which includes recitals, theatrical and musical plays of Janacek and Kafka’s Letters to Milena..
